About Lakeland Pier & Lift

Our Story

Lakeland Pier and Lift LLC began as Carman Pier LLC in 1989 when founder Steve Carman’s word of mouth pier installation and removal business began to take off. After moving to Sechrist Lake in the early 90’s, the pier business grew exponentially to include new pier sales and lift service, and running things out of his garage was no longer adequate. He bought the old Lakeland Printing Company building in 2000, our current location, and the land behind it shortly after. He was known as “Kosciusko County’s Friendliest Waterfront Dealer” and worked tirelessly for his customers whom he considered friends.

Tragically, Steve was killed on December 18, 2013 while in his home. The palm tree logo so prominent today first appeared on Steve’s business cards and continues to pay homage to his fun-loving Caribbean beach vibe persona, complete with dreadlocks and a dark tan during the summer. His younger half-brother Chris bought the business and continued on, renaming it Lakeland Pier and Lift LLC as he and Steve had briefly talked about eventually doing to fit the location’s history and the area. Today we are much more than a pier and lift company; we are working to make a difference in our community and it’s lake-related resources.

We are fully insured, including workers compensation, should anything happen involving your pier or lift during installation, repair, removal or transport. (Companies that do not carry insurance, or do not have the correct insurance, could put the cost of an accident on you.)

We are consistently recognized by ShoreStation as an outstanding and preferred lift dealer in our area.

Communicative

We communicate with area marinas to ensure boat deliveries run as quickly as possible.

Giving

We financially support many area organizations including The Lilly Center for Lakes and Streams, The Watershed Foundation, and various lake association weed control and firework funds. We also give to local church and charitable organizations, especially relating to the physical and mental health needs of the less fortunate and underserved in Kosciusko County.
